Chiltern Street

Chiltern Street

The design of this flagship store in Marylebone for accessories designer Sophie Hulme builds on themes present in the Burlington Arcade project. The project uses natural materials with subtle variation in pattern, tone and finish. Stained rotary cut douglas fir panels form a continuous dado around the shop floor and incorporate recesses for the display of products. The patterned floor was made by cutting, staining and re-assembling a standard cork tile to provide a decorative and functional floor finish. A unique blend of natural clay plaster was used on the upper walls and ceiling with painted stripes applied to animate the surface. The family of loose furniture pieces and other bespoke items, lighting and signage have been carefully designed to accord with the ethos of the brand and the understanding that interiors of boutiques traditionally reflected the particularity of its proprietor.
