Gartcharran Farm
Gartcharran Farm
This project involves the remodelling and upgrade of a historic agricultural complex on the Craignish Castle Estate. The farmstead consists of a farmhouse and flanking barns, occupying a raised position overlooking Loch Craignish. The works carefully preserve the farmstead’s character whilst improving its thermal performance and connection to the surrounding landscape. The slate roofs are extended to the rear to enclose a yard space, maintaining the buildings’ silhouette and providing a more functional connection between the ancillary buildings and farmhouse. New openings formed in the front elevation and a rearrangement of the internal living spaces introduce a stronger connection to the site, framing views of the loch and surrounding landscape.
