Iceland Cabin
Iceland Cabin
This proposal for a standardised trekking cabin in Iceland draws on the country’s building traditions. The walls and floors are constructed using a composite timber structural framework (laminated veneer lumber) and birch plywood sheets, creating a robust and simple structure. On the ground floor, thick outer walls are made from compacted blocks of peat and earth. The upper floors expose the structure and plywood linings which are stained with coloured linseed oil paint. The roof is constructed using painted corrugated metal sheets.
